Buyer's Guide
With all of the latest advances in the industry, accessible van users have never had so many chassis options! There was a time when an individual seeking an accessible van had their choice of Dodge or Chrysler and that was it. Dodge and Chrysler are still manufacturing top quality van chassis, but now that individual would have additional options offered by Chevrolet, Buick, and Ford domestically as well as import options offered by renowned manufacturers Toyota and Honda. When purchasing a chassis, it is recommended you research your vehicles rating with Consumer Report, Edmunds, or Carfax.
Buying a van from Dodge, Chrysler, Chevrolet, Buick, Ford, Toyota, or Honda and then taking it to your local adaptive equipment dealer for conversion is an option. You will incur a shipping charge to get your vehicle to and from the conversion factory and you will be without your vehicle for six to eight weeks while the adaptations are being made. The Sienna and Honda have a mobility package up charge so in most cases it would not be beneficial to purchase from the chassis manufacturer first. It is also very important to know that all trim packages cannot be converted, so before making a chassis purchase from the dealership don't hesitate to contact your adaptive mobility dealer to ask them insure that you invest in equipment that is going to work for you!
Mobility Manufacturer
The Braun Corporation is authorized to modify GM, Chrysler, and Toyota. Vantage Mobility International is authorized to modify Chrysler, Honda, and Ford.
With the rising popularity of television shows where master fabricators do amazing things with everyday vehicles, it is very easy wonder if you can purchase a van and run down to your local fabricator have them create your conversion to save you a couple of bucks. The fact of the matter is a wheelchair accessible van is a result of a very close relationship between a vehicle manufacturers and a licensed, bonded, and approved mobility manufacturer. Their engineers work very closely together to insure that their products work smoothly together and that all of the vehicle safety standards are still met. Chop shop conversions will most definitely void manufacturer's warranty of new van chassis.
Mobility Companies
The single most important aspect of purchasing a mobility van is to develop a relationship with your selling dealership. The relationship between you and your mobility company does not end when the money changes hands. You will be returning to this dealership many times over for preventative maintenance and inevitable repairs to your mobility equipment. You need to be assured that they keep the most commonly needed parts in stock and that their technicians are factory trained and certified. BBB members may check online whether customer complaints were resolved properly. All selling mobility dealers should have a used car dealer's license and/or a broker's license. The used car dealer's license is restricted and any complaints can be filed with the DMV.

Internet Sales
Do your homework; you get what you pay for and if it seems too good to be true it probably is. Check with the Better Business Bureau and National Mobility Equipment Dealers Association for dealership standings. We do not recommend buying anything that you have not seen because it may not be the appropriate vehicle for your needs. Also, the Braun Corporation does not allow Internet sales unless the selling dealer makes prior arrangements with a dealer in your area for service. Make sure you understand that in most cases you will be responsible for tax, shipping, and registration.
